Customer Review: Dropped Calls
I have always owned Motorola phones because I have had such a great experience with their ability to keep a strong signal when other people around me have no signal at all. So, it was with great caution that I bought the Blackjack. First, the good: easy to use, keypad makes texting a breeze, and it can sync with your PC for your schedule. The bad: dropped calls. It is so frustrating to be on a business call in an area that I have never had problems in before (with my Motorola phones) and the call drops due to a lack of signal. This has happened so many times I cannot count them. I know it is the phone and not the service provider because I have not changed providers, just the phone and these dropped calls and periods of no signal at all are happening in the same places that I have used other phones countless times before. If you want a great smart phone and you live in an area that is covered with cell towers, buy it. If you live in an area with fewer towers and you need a phone with excellent reception, buy something else.
Customer Review: Windows Mobile Dream…
I have stayed away from Windows Mobile based Phones for a very long time and my most recent phone prior to the Blackjack II purchase was a Symbian phone. I really had no great expectations with the new Blackjack II but it was time for a phone replacement and decided to give a real try for 30 days and go from there. Flat out, the phone has been worth it. A smart phone is a requirement for my line of work and this phone also delivers a wealth of features I depended on greatly with my previous smart phones to include: - tether capable - multiple Bluetooth support - Navigation product capable (GPS) - Document support, Word, PDF, Excel The display is beautiful in my opinion, the OS responsive and no signs of sluggish response. I have F-Secure loaded for anti virus and also use the XM Mobile Radio feature. While I have heard a slew of horror stories with Windows Mobile, my experience with Mobile 6 is extremely stable in my opinion. Hands down, I highly recommend the product. The only reason the product did not receive a 5 star is the lack of a true internal GPS receiver. I would have given it a 4.75 however had I been able.

The Samsung SPH-m620, affectionately dubbed the “UpStage,” is so unique, you have to see it (and hear it) to believe it. On one side, it’s a slim, stylish Samsung phone with stereo Bluetooth wireless technology, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. On the other side, it’s a slim, stylish Samsung music player with touch-sensitive media controls and a stereo speaker. Other great features include a memory card slot, advanced voice control with dictation capabilities, EV-DO high-speed data, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. With the ability to store up to 2000 songs, the m620 is the perfect choice for tech-connected power users and music lovers who need the speed of the Power Vision Network to access information while on the go.
This amazing two-faced phone does double duty. See it in 3D (requires Flash). |
Design
The extremely unique m620 features a candy bar form factor with two faces. One side offers the typical look and feel of a modern looking MP3 player, and includes advanced music and media control keys, as well as a large 2.1-inch full color 176 x 220 display–perfect for watching optional Sprint TV media. The “phone side” sports a massive secondary screen that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The 1.3-megapixel camera lens is housed directly above this display. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side, while most of the phone’s features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset’s control pad, also located on the “phone side”. The phone includes 53 MB of internal memory–plenty of memory for running the music player and other advanced applications–and micro SD cards can supplement the phone’s memory with its built-in memory card slot. And because the m620 has an internal antenna, there’s nothing to snag or break off. Charging and USB data cable connectivity are available on the phone’s bottom edge. Samsung was even nice enough to throw in support for PictBridge direct-to-printer printing (via USB).
Calling Features
The m620’s internal phone book can hold up to 500 contacts, and the phone’s picture ID system allows you to assign pictures and ringtones to your most common callers. The phone ships with built-in polyphonic ringtones, but for those times when you want to be discreet, there’s a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and advanced voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates easy. Simply say the name or number of the person you want to call and the number is dialed automatically without using the keypad. No prior voice training is needed. Lastly, because the m620 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation.
Impressively slim and stylish. |
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The m620 is a messaging powerhouse, and comes with support for Sprint’s PCS picture and video mail services. You can shoot high quality pictures and video clips with sound and instantly send them to email addresses and other Sprint PCS phones that are compatible with picture and video mail services. Or, upload them to the Sprint PCS pictures Web site to create albums. You can also use the m620 to send and receive email, exchange text messages, or join a chat room. T9, a predictive text entry system, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit–a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
The real power of the m620 comes alive with Sprint’s PCS Power Vision services. Relying on Sprint’s new EV-DO high speed data network, Power Vision allows you to enjoy full-color video clips or live TV of the latest news, sports, and entertainment from CNN, Fox, The Weather Channel, and more (Sprint Power Vision charges apply).
You can also stream or download music to your phone with Sprint’s Music Store service. Download digital tracks instantly to your phone. Choose from hundreds of thousands of full-length songs from virtually every genre. Select songs directly from the phone and listen to them wherever you go. Even download them to your PC.
With a USB connection, the m620 can also be used as a mass storage device. And last but not least, personalized news and information tickers, and downloadable screen savers and ringtones are also available through the Sprint Power Vision service.
The m620 is packed with useful tools to make your life more productive and fun. A message dictation system lets you speak your SMS text messages into the phone, while a voice memo recorder lets you record spoken voice notes. The phone also includes an alarm clock that can be set one time or daily, a calendar with a to-do list and a scheduler, a calculator, a stopwatch, and a world clock.
Imaging and Entertainment
As mentioned, the m620 features a powerful 1.3-megapixel camera that can be used to capture and send video and still images. The m620’s built-in media player lets you see and hear streaming and stored media. The m620 supports MP3, AAC, and AAC+ audio files. And where will you put all those pictures, videos, and songs? Straight onto the phone’s 50 MB of mass storage, or on memory cards. The phone takes gaming to the next level, too, with support for advanced Java-based games.
The m620 is also Sprint Music Store Enabled. That means you can easily download stereo-quality tracks instantly to the phone. Choose songs from thousands of artists in virtually every genre, and listen wherever you go (additional Sprint charges apply). The m620 sports an airplane mode feature, as well, which allows you to safely use the non-wireless functions of the phone (such as music, games, or organizer functions) on an airplane during flight.

Customer Review: Upstage isn’t an upset!
This phone isn’t a business type phone. It’s your regular everyday phone you can easily grab and go. Change is GOOD! =D Expressing some of my opinions on the phone. 1. I liked the new feel of a two sided phone. It’s very light weight and it almost feels like a iPod Nano. 2. The features you have aren’t as exciting as other phones, but the fact that it is based on a “small” MP3 type phone is different. 3. The case that has everyone worrying about! It doesn’t annoy me when you have to flip side to side to enter text. Once you get use to it, it’s very simple. 4. Some bad things about this phone is that: - The text screen is kinda small, but you’ll pick it up easily. - The speakers for the MP3 should be made a bit louder. Since it is a MP3 phone. - 1.3 Megapixel camera? Is too old, it should’ve been upgraded. 5. Light weight, very compact, easy grab and go, battery life extension pack, music in the palm of your hand. What else can you not want?
Customer Review: For the first time EVER I returned a phone.
I can honestly say that my problems with this phone have nothing to do with Sprint (I LOVE THEM!) and everything to do with bad engineering. I gave this phone a GOOD try - 4 months before I finally have HAD IT and have bought a new phone. Let’s start with some positives: PROS: 1. Great sound - both on receiving and talking end. No more “WHAT???” and “I CAN’T HEAR YOU!” with this phone. People cannot tell I’m on a cell phone. [as long as that stupid external battery thing isn’t on the phone] 2. SO TINY! It’s fabulously tiny, it literally fits inside my coach wristlet and it so portable and wonderful. [as long as that stupid external battery thing isn’t on the phone] 3. GREAT screens. This phone has WOW appeal. Everyone loves the look of this “candy bar” phone. The dual screens are amazing, resolution is fabulous on them and the camera is really decent. 4. The headphone adapter that comes with the phone is nice. I like being able to use my ipod headphones with it. Additionally, you can answer the phone with the headphones on and get sound in both ears. NICE! CONS: 1. Where should I start? The external battery “case” is the worst thing ever. And you cannot *NOT* use it because the internal battery is so lame that it dies in a day. I do not have a land line so my cell gets regular usage and this phone is honestly not meant for someone that uses the PHONE part a lot. Regardless of the battery life, the external case also offers the added benefit of flopping around in your face as you’re trying to talk on the phone such that you have to hold it away with your pinky (or at least that’s what I do). In addition, the microphone rides up on your cheek such that people think I’m mumbling constantly unless I hold the phone a certain way. I guess a bluetooth headset would get rid of that problem but I don’t use one of those. You’re just screwed on the battery because the only fix is to use the poorly engineered “case.” 2. The software is really buggy. There are times (and I still haven’t figured out WHY this happens) when I cannot answer a call. I press “answer” a million times, try locking and unlocking the phone, to no avail. Eventually the call goes to voice mail despite my best attempts to answer. This is AFTER a call to Sprint where they upgraded my software - this did not fix the problem. 3. The dual screens. Yes, they are a PRO in that they are beautiful but flipping that darn phone back and forth is a PAIN IN THE REAR END!! And forget about flipping the phone while it’s in that dumb case, it’s SO awkward. 4. The MP3 player is ridiculous. This is NOT the ipod replacement that they claim it is. Every time you want to listen to something you have to wait while the phone first loads the player, then loads ALL of your songs off of the micro SD card into the player software. If you buy a 2 or 4 gig chip this can literally take a minute or two. JUST to get the player to load. And the software is kinda dumb - the shuffle doesn’t really SHUFFLE it always goes to the same “shuffled” order if that makes any sense. 5. The touch pad to control the “MP3 player” side of the phone is also the most poorly engineered thing I’ve ever seen. I cannot use it! And my fingers are nice and small! And I swear I am a dextrous, piano playing individual who has never had so many issues learning to use something like this! It is an oblong rectangle but it is totally counterintuitive and I literally stopped using that side of the phone as much as possible because of this touch pad. In summary, this phone is really badly engineered and it does not stand alone as EITHER an ipod replacement/MP3 player OR a phone. But like I said, SPRINT is fabulous and I do not blame them for Samsung’s big mistake. -Stacey 4.

Customer Review: Poor design for an mp3 player
2.5 mm jack requires clumsy adapter sticking out sideways for any decent headphones you’ve already spent money on. Jack cover is flimsy plastic, would break quickly. No special software needed to mount or copy files, though it has annoying habit of disconnecting the mount (in Windows XP) after each copy. Even mounts on Linux! I copied over a directory from an audio book, track files beginning with 01, 02, etc… It got the sort order wrong (something my ancient USB 1.0 iRiver gets right…), so you have to create a playlist. Playlist can only be created on the device, and it’s a very tiresome and tedious interface to sort the tracks out, moving one track ‘up’ or ‘down’ in the playlist at a time. I checked out the playlist ‘tfs’ file via the Linux mount (Windows XP wouldn’t let me view the file, feh!), and it’s a binary format. Not unhackable, for creating a playlist without the device, but why bother with all this trouble? Returned it after one day. Now I see why Verizon Wireless was offering ‘buy one, get one free.’ What a lemon! Why can’t anyone make a useful and usable device? It’s not that hard!
Customer Review: The Juke is awesome!
I have had my phone for about two months now and it’s great. It’s easy to use and it actually takes really good pictures (most Samsung phones are the way to go, besides kyocera). Anyhoo…. I have the navy blue one, the other colors didn’t appeal to me. I have dropped it twice on the cement and it still looks brand new. It’s more durable than it looks and it fits just about anywhere. Its a cool little phone. It also gets really good reception….and I live in the middle of nowhere!

Customer Review: I wish there was a 4.5 rating-SWEETUM PHONE
Wow this phone is RAD! Ive had it for 2 weeks and I’m already in love. This is my first phone and I paid $130 for it at the AT&T sorte after rebates….i know pretty expensive huh? I was deciding between this phone and the Samsung SGH A707. I was doing alot of research on the internet and figured out the pros and cons and my favorites of each phone. When I finally went to the store to get one they looked pretty different in my hand then on the websites. I only had a couple minutes because the clerk was waiting for me to hurry up. I compared the sizes of the sides, the overall shape (I wanted it to fit in my pocket), the color, and the features. I didnt see the price of the SLM since it wasnt on display so i didnt realyl know what i was in for. The Red Samsung SGH A707 was $40 but i didnt care. I felt like i had a better deal. I brought i home and startd playing with it as soon as i could. It was so cool how it had internet!! I went on my email and looked at all the ringtones and all the cooll features. Later I learned that it cost me money for every minute i was on there…..thats the down part. so my mom went to the store and canceled it. its still very tempting but i realize thats what computers are for. The Front screen of the phone its pretty great. Its not huge but who needs a huge screen? You can set it to have one of your pictures or you can set it to a clock. It tell syou how many bars you have, how the battery is doing, what day it is, and if you have a new message of if someone is calling. However, it doesnt use as a view finder for the camera. Guess why? cause the camera can rotate! IT smivels back and forth so you can take self portrates with the phone still open, and facing you. The strange part of this is that when you have the camera facing you, you show as upside down….but that does make a huge difference, because once you take the piture you can rotate it. Another down part of this phone is that id doesnt have a camera button on the outside part of the phone (or permanent inside button, but i live without it. This phone is very sleek and I was surprised to find out that it *does* fit in my pocket! there are no bumps or raised parts and so it is very easy to carry around. I was also glad to find that I havent lost this phone since it is a decent size. soem phoens are just to small for me but this one is just right. On the side of this wonderful phone there is the volume adjusters and on the other side is a headset jack/charger slot and a MicroSD card slot. The headset jack lets you listen to music without letting the whole world know what you are listening to. if you open the phone up you see a great screen and the key pad. The screen doesnt do too good in the light but I dont find that very frusterating. On the key pad, I thought that the green and red phone symbols were very stylish. Above them is the Music shortcut and a Mulittasker button….very nice. if you are sending a text message but then remember you had to call someone immaditaly but dont want to exit your message? then VOLIA this is the button for you. you can take your call and then once you’re dont you can hang up and get back to your message without haveing to rewrite it! Now thats what im talking about. Above those keys are the soft keys which dont need much explaning, since every phone has them. beside those is the ‘cilver circle’ i call it. The Cirlce has its navigation things like left right up and down and an OK in the middle. If you’re on the main screen though the OK button uses as a brower shrot cut. the up button is a shortcut to a text message, the left button is a shortcut to MyStuff they call it. the right button is a chat button where you can…you know….chat! While i was poking all the buttons, I also discovered that the Clear button (below the ‘cilver circle’) is a short cut to the calender. Sneaky Sneaky! If your’re thinking about chooseing this phone stop thinking (save up) and buy it now! I suggest looking at CNET at www.cnet.com or if you wanna get a specific review about this phone, go to http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/samsung-slm-sgh-a747/4505-6454_7-32751900.html?tag=prod.txt.1 even though they are a little harsh. Customer Review: Beg To Differ
I beg to differ regarding this phone. The most noticeable downfall for me was the sound quality of the internal mic. My callers all said that I sounded muffled to them and I often had to repeat myself because they couldn’t understand me. The second thing was the text messages received didn’t save in date received order. They were all over the place after I closed the flip. Yes it’s cute but other than that I sent it back after a week.
Customer Review: Great phone (once you learn how to use it)
This phone is a great deal for a good price. I am a satisfied customer.

Customer Review: Awesome Phone !!!!!!!!!!!
This phone is soooo cool. I have the red one and this is by far way better than expected. Yes its takes a little to get use to but IF you know how to read then you should have no problems. I hate to read but I really don’t think it takes a mastermind to figure it out. So far this is the best phone for taking pics too. So clear and I get compliments ALL THE TIME. Not only is it hot looking but the battery life is kickin great. You have to flip this phone from one screen to another BUT its no biggie (unless you’re lazy). I love how slim it is too. It fits in your back pocket. Very light weight so you won’t get carpal tunnel for holding it. (I hate those phones that are so big, bulky and heavy). Overall I think its a GREAT phone. Really I do!!!!
Customer Review: PHONE
