Customer Review: LOVE IT
I GOT THIS TV AT A STEAL FROM A CIRUIT CITY DISCOUNT OUTLET FOR JUST 890 DOLLARS IT WAS STILL NEW AND IN THE BOX. I HAVE HAD IT FOR A YEAR NOW AND STILL CAN SAY IT LOOKS AND WORKS BETTER THAN THE NEW SETS IN THE STORES FOR 2500 DOLLARS OR MORE. I HAVE MY COMPUTR HOOKED UP TO IT AND THAT IS SO AWESOME I STILL DROOL ON IT WHEN I USE IT THAT WAY MY COMPUTER HAS BLU RAY SO I WATCH BLUE RAY ON IT AND IT IS AWESOME. I HAVE A SAMSUNG HOME THEATER HOOKED UP TO IT AS WELL AND THE ANY NET SYSTEM MAKES THEM WORK AS ONE UNIT THRU THE TV’S REMOTE. WHEN PEOPLE SEE THIS SETUP THEY ALWAYS LOOK DUMBFOUNDED WITH ITS SLICK OPERATION. IF YOU CAN STILL FIND ONE BUY IT YOU WONT BE SORRY.
Customer Review: 4 Years old and still going strong…
My HLP-5085 is 4 years old and still going strong. Over 8000 hours on it and still on the original lamp! I do have a spare ready just in case. Have had zero service issues with it. There are, however, two design anomolies. 1. With the integral stand, your component (receiver, DVD Player, etc…) storage options are limited to the funky stand made for this TV. 2. Direct-access to the input ports doesn’t work. It makes programming a remote, especially the “too smart for their own good” Logitech remotes, extremely difficult. Attempting any sort of programming to directly switch to the HDMI, DVI or other ports simply doesn’t work. You have to use the “Cycle” method, and that also fails most of the time. The best thing you can do is put the “Input Next” button and code on the front page of all your device screens so it’s handy. Other than that I have zero complaints about this TV. The new 61 LED 1080p units are dropping in price like a rock. Less than $1800 for the top of the line 61″ set! I’m going to wait until it hits $1500 then I will bite. I’ll probably give this one to my sister as I’m sure it will be still running strong in a year.

Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture. Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes.

The latest version of Samsung’s breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing.

    Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA)

    DLNA logo

    dlna daisy chain
You already know something about digital living. There’s the TV and digital video recorder in your family room. (And another set in your bedroom.) You have a PC and digital printer in your office, along with a network attached storage device. And you’ve copied all your music onto your portable music player and haven’t had to open a CD case for years. But getting them to talk to each other can be pretty tough. Why is it still so difficult to send digital content from one device to another?

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collaboration of the world’s leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies that has created design guidelines for a new generation of products that can work together — no matter the brand.

Think for a moment about all of the photos “locked away” on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive “PCexperience”.

Or, say you recently downloaded your daughter’s birthday party video from your digital camcorder to your PC. Now you want to share it with your parents who are visiting. Without DLNA, you probably have to burn a DVD of the video or hook up the camcorder to the TV. With DLNA, you can just use your TV’s remote to call up the video on your TV. That’s it.

    Super Patterned Vertical Alignment

    Audio Features

TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV.

SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass.

TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.

    • Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
    • TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
    • The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.

Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

Customer Review: Very happy with my decision to buy from Amazon
This TV is excellent and I love it. Much has been said about this TV already so I can’t add much. I do not have any HDMI components yet and I wish it had more S-Video or RCA connections. Amazon service is the best! The TV was delivered before the promise date and delivery was very smooth. Delivery company called and scheduled the appointment and then I got a call from the driver around 30 minutes before delivery time. I will definitely buy again from Amazon.
      Customer Review: So close!
Great picture, nearly perfect…BUT..I bought it for installing in a tv lift in the master bedroom. I was able to compare it precisely with our Sony kdl 52xbr lcd. They were both simultaneously connected to the same Direct tv 1080p box, and the same dvd player via an hdmi connection. The picture was a live HD sports transmission..as close to a no compression source as you can get. Result? I set them both up to match as closely as possible, but the Sony picture is just fractionally cleaner/crisper than the Samsung. (I should tell you I have spent the better part of twenty years working on film to tape digital tv post production, and I know artefacts!) The Samsung is great- but you get what you pay for. The Sony isn’t thirty percent better- even though it was thirty percent more costly- but if you want the very best- no expense spared- its still the Sony

That’s it.

TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.

          Customer Review: Fabulous TV!!
I received my TV on Sept. 26. I cannot say one negative thing about the TV or the remote that some people have found to be troublesome. The picture is just amazing, the sound is great. I was going to purchase the 46″ 550 series but backed off due to comments regarding the sound. Glad I went for the extra $$$ for the 650 series. The delivery from CEVA was not as great. They showed up as scheduled and brought the TV in and set it up in no time, but between them hooking it up wrong and the HD cable box not working correctly, I was not able to get HDTV until Saturday which required a visit from my cable company. It was clear that the delivery guys, though nice, were in a rush to get out and move on. I felt they were more concerned about making sure they got a gratuity, than making sure the TV was set up properly. All in all, this was a good experience. If you go this route just make sure your TV is up and running before the delivery guys leave your house.
          Customer Review: Very satisfied
Have had the Samsung LCD for over a month & very satisfied with all aspects. What surprised me the most was the delivery from Amazon & set-up of the television ! I was expecting a UPS guy to just drop a box off. Instead a private delivery contractor came and even connected the TV & made sure everthing was working, before I signed. The box & packaging materials were even taken away (was offered option to keep in case I needed to return). Ordering through Amazon was great !

The unit was repacked but immaculate. It provides an excellent picture when hooked to an HD source. The picture is a bit disappointing when it is not HD. I would definetly make this purchase again. I also own a sony bravia that is fantastic. I would however, purchase the Samsung instead for the difference in price.

Made my search, find best price and shipping, one key purchasing, shipper brought it to the room I wanted. Samsung has a great picture. Overall am pleased with Almazon, the dealer, the shipper and the TV that is why I thought five stars was earned.
            Customer Review: Awesome Picture.
I teach film and wanted something that would enhance my viewing experience without overwhelming my medium sized, 14 wide by 20 living area. This TV is perfect and the sound, unlike some of the smaller Samsungs, is very good. While not the theatrical surround sound experience, the down facing speakers work well and produce realistic tones whether you are listening to voice or music. They also allow for a clean appearance which is further enhanced by the touch of red screen. If you are not the techie type and cringe at hooking up one more wire or don’t want to lay out another $500 on sound, you should be quite happy with this set just the way it is. My couch is about 12 feet from the screen, while the arm chairs go as close as 6. I find this distance just about perfect for watching the 50 inch screen. I’ve even had a few friends comment that they almost felt dizzy watching large, fast moving, objects on the screen. If you are wondering how big to go, I personally don’t think paying $$$ for an inch or two more will make a difference unless you have a very large room and want to bump up to 60 or 65″. The kids should be adequately wowed by their video games on this one. I also like the set of video connectors on the side of the TV which allow you to connect cameras and other devices without having to get to the back of the set. My TV arrived fully assembled in the box. No struggling to get the base on. Amazon offered free white glove delivery and the gentleman placed the TV on my stand without so much as leaving a finger print on the frame or screen. Since the TV is quite heavy this was good to have. He also told me about adding a “line filter” to remove sine waves from the AC as he said some clients encountered small squiggly lines on their screen. Luckily the power center I bought already had digital filters on all the lines. I’ve had the set for two months and use it with a new Sony s350 Blu-ray player. The only problem I’ve had so far is not wanting to leave home!! Great product.

            Customer Review: looks great
I’ll be honest, only bought it because I wanted a tv that looked “cool”. In my opinion this is the best looking tv out there, so went right for it. Expensive, true, but so are decorative items in general. Regarding the rest: - Picture quality is great, but im not an expert. I cant tell the difference between any of the expensive hdtvs. all look the same to me - Sound: also not an expert here, but this is where I think the tv could be better. At high volumes it sounds like what you’d hear from $50 dollar computer speakers. - I really like the additional functionalities: plugging it to the internet to have live stock quotes, news feed and weather worked right out of the box. Also hooking it up to the network to be able to watch pictures and movies stored on my computer’s hard-disk was a breeze (once again, im quite clueless with these things, so I think they did a great job if it was this simple) - one major negative is that the TV does indeed interfere with some remote controls as others have noted (timewarnercable hd cable box is one of them). I got around it by having a thick woden cabinet with glass doors that does a good job at shielding the cablebox from the IR emitted by the TV, but others are suffering from major issues… Overall I like it a lot because it looks fantastic as a decorative item and of course overall its a great tv (but i’m sure they all are in this price range). would give it 4 stars as opposed to 5 mainly due to the speakers being weak, but gave it 5 stars by mistake and cant change it to 4….but then again, probably deserves 5 just based on looks(!)
Customer Review: IR Issues with dish/comcast settop boxes ??
First things first: I did not purchase this TV (yet). Its been sitting in my cart and before I pressed that buy button I thought I’d see if there was any feedback from the avsforum community. Apart from the glorious reviews about the picture quality on this TV, I read something else that is bothering me quite a bit. It seems that more than a few people (people who actually own this TV) are finding that several set-top boxes from Dish network, Comcast (and some models of Tivo) behave erratically due to IR signals coming out of this TV. This is especially true when the TV is turned ON and the consensus seems to be that the panel backlight is emitting IR signals causing the havoc. Here is a link to the thread discussing about this problem: […] It seems that Samsung is aware of the problem and hopefully they fix it soon. I am posting this here since I believe this is important information for people like me who are(were) on the verge of buying this set. Also Amazon.com adds greater visibility. I am giving this 4 stars since I am not an owner of this set and do not want to effect the rating anyway.

Customer Review: How thin is it really, wall mounting
Perhaps most people will use the included stand, and set it on top of a console that is 18″-20″ deep, so the thinness is more wow factor (the 950 LED is actually thicker). But when wall mounting, chosen to balance the height between seated and standing (centerline above floor 55″), thin was an important factor in my install. The side of the TV will be visible in the normal traffic flow through the house, so I wanted to get this mounted as cleanly and closely as possible so it wasn’t going to shout “I have a wall HDTV” the second someone walked in the house. I had some challenges. There are wall mount brackets that are 1/2″ thick (they don’t provide tilting adjustment). Since the power cord and patch cords project out the back, I tried to accomodate that by using a recessed AV mounting plate. In the end, I was able to get the TV to sit just 1″ from the wall. Routing 2 HMDI, component, SVHS, and audio cords behind the set was also a challenge. For those who are wanting to take this on, get the shortest AV cables you can find, and ones with the least amount of meat near the jack so that the cords bend freely (the more you pay, the more room the cable requires). Position carefully a recessed AV plate (I just couldn’t leave an open hole behind the sets for the cords). Watch the location of your studs, since the mounting plate and the AV panel will, most likely, span several studs. Patch cords with 90 degree cords would have been great, but I couldn’t find them. The end result is the face of the bezel is a respectable 2.9″ from the wall, about the same depth as a quality picture frame.
            Customer Review: The Difference
So you wanted to know the difference? Here it is. It’s THINNER. Actually the thinnest Samsung has ever made @ 1.9″ Other than that nothing has changed between 750-850. However the 950 there has been a substantial change. LED SmartLighting as been added to the 950 which according to Samsung it only brightens the areas of the screen that need to be, in short this addition gives the 950 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

            Customer Review: Reliability issues
I purchased this TV a week ago. It arrived on a Friday; I took it out of the packaging and put it on the stand on Saturday; I went through the menus and set it up on Sunday; and Monday the screen wouldn’t come on (and hasn’t come on since). I opened a service ticket with Samsung with my warranty: they sent a tech out to my house to replace the system board, which had no effect. So I’m now waiting on a replacement DMD board, but they’re out of stock, so this may be a while. So it’s worked for me for just under two days. Not what I’d consider a sterling record.
            Customer Review: WOW
Bought this Samsung HDTV a month ago. This is my first HDTV, so I may not be an expert, but the picture is beyond my wildest hopes. The details are bright, crisp, and first class. You can see everything that you always imagined could be possible with excellent hdtv. Look in the background of any scene and look at the books or dvds on shelves of the actors and you know who the characters are. I have owned big screen tv for over 25 years. Nothing compares to this picture. Just hope it lasts - the bulbs are known to go out quickly. I will follow up in a few months with updates. Make sure you are hooked up to hd cable or hd satellite receiver.

            Customer Review: excellent TV
I use this TV in my bedroom. The picture and features are great! I’m very happy that I decided to make this purchase, although the screen does look a little smaller than I thought it would. You may wish to consider a 20″ or 22″ instead. The 19″ does work OK for me, though, because I’m only about 5′ away from it. I wish Amazon would be more careful with their packaging. The TV came in its original box from the mfg’er, which was put into a box about twice as large with very little packing material for cushioning. Very poor job, Amazon!
Customer Review: Wonderful set at a great price!
I am very pleased with this set! I’d purchased it to place in my kitchen; the viewing distance from my kitchen table to the set is 8 feet, and I can watch with perfect visibility; the kitchen counter stretches another 7 feet and I am fine viewing the screen from that distance as well. Hooking up the HD cable box is a piece of cake, and I’d completed the task within 20 minutes; the TV will then automatically update the channels and you can of course, customize them as well. The color is great, and the deep red color within the frame of the set is very subtle. I truly believe that the clarity and crispness of this picture is better than my larger diameter HD set! Additionally, Samsung ranks high on dependability… The savings on the set is significant; PC Richards offered me a “rock bottom” price of $450.00; with tax, it was topping out at $481.00. Here at Amazon, there wasn’t any sales tax, and being I am an Amazon prime member, I received 2 day shipping at no extra charge! Collectively, it is a savings of over $100.00! Buy this set; you won’t be disappointed! Ellen
