Customer Review: looks great
I’ll be honest, only bought it because I wanted a tv that looked “cool”. In my opinion this is the best looking tv out there, so went right for it. Expensive, true, but so are decorative items in general. Regarding the rest: - Picture quality is great, but im not an expert. I cant tell the difference between any of the expensive hdtvs. all look the same to me - Sound: also not an expert here, but this is where I think the tv could be better. At high volumes it sounds like what you’d hear from $50 dollar computer speakers. - I really like the additional functionalities: plugging it to the internet to have live stock quotes, news feed and weather worked right out of the box. Also hooking it up to the network to be able to watch pictures and movies stored on my computer’s hard-disk was a breeze (once again, im quite clueless with these things, so I think they did a great job if it was this simple) - one major negative is that the TV does indeed interfere with some remote controls as others have noted (timewarnercable hd cable box is one of them). I got around it by having a thick woden cabinet with glass doors that does a good job at shielding the cablebox from the IR emitted by the TV, but others are suffering from major issues… Overall I like it a lot because it looks fantastic as a decorative item and of course overall its a great tv (but i’m sure they all are in this price range). would give it 4 stars as opposed to 5 mainly due to the speakers being weak, but gave it 5 stars by mistake and cant change it to 4….but then again, probably deserves 5 just based on looks(!)
Customer Review: IR Issues with dish/comcast settop boxes ??
First things first: I did not purchase this TV (yet). Its been sitting in my cart and before I pressed that buy button I thought I’d see if there was any feedback from the avsforum community. Apart from the glorious reviews about the picture quality on this TV, I read something else that is bothering me quite a bit. It seems that more than a few people (people who actually own this TV) are finding that several set-top boxes from Dish network, Comcast (and some models of Tivo) behave erratically due to IR signals coming out of this TV. This is especially true when the TV is turned ON and the consensus seems to be that the panel backlight is emitting IR signals causing the havoc. Here is a link to the thread discussing about this problem: […] It seems that Samsung is aware of the problem and hopefully they fix it soon. I am posting this here since I believe this is important information for people like me who are(were) on the verge of buying this set. Also Amazon.com adds greater visibility. I am giving this 4 stars since I am not an owner of this set and do not want to effect the rating anyway.
